2012 Series Recap
The 2012 edition of the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series
saw a familiar face dominate much of the tour, as Chris Madden
racked up four wins in the ten-race miniseries en route to his
fourth series title. Other drivers that picked up victories were
Mike Marlar (2), Vic Hill, William Thomas, Clint Smith, and Casey
Roberts. A total of 120 drivers entered at least one Schaeffer
Oil Southern Nationals Series program in '12 and each event was
hotly contested. At the end of the ten races, Chris Madden was
awarded the Championship by besting Mike Marlar, Billy Ogle, Jr.,
Vic Hill, and Kenny Compton, Jr.!
2011 Series Recap
The seventh season of the Southern Nationals Series welcomed a
new title sponsor Schaeffer's Specialized Lubricants and provided
some of the best racing action in the Southeast all year long.
In the most competitive Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series
season to date, Gray Court, South Carolina driver Chris Madden
emerged with his third career series title. Chris was victorious
on three different occasions on the ten-race miniseries, winning
at the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina, the Cleveland
Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee, and the Volunteer Speedway in
Bulls Gap, Tennessee.
Other winners during the two-week journey were 2011 Camping World
Truck Series Champion Austin Dillon (Wythe Raceway), Brent Dixon
(Screven Motor Speedway), Jonathan Davenport (Rome Speedway),
Randy Weaver (North Georgia Speedway), Casey Roberts (East Alabama
Motor Speedway), and Vic Hill (Tazewell Speedway). One event at
the Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Georgia was washed out by
Mother Nature and could not be rescheduled.
2010 Series Recap
The 2010 campaign was the first in several seasons in which the
Southern Nationals Series operated without a title sponsor. Despite
the lack of a title sponsor, the series flourished in sanctioning
ten different Dirt Late Model events in thirteen days in the states
of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama,
and Tennessee. The Southern Nationals Series saw a new champion
crowned in 2010, as Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Georgia
had a strong two weeks, which included racking up three series
victories.
In addition to Davenport, five other drivers were able to reach
victory lane in Southern Nationals Series competition in 2010.
Those drivers were Dennis Franklin, Casey Roberts, Chris Madden,
Bub McCool, and Clint Smith. While car counts were in line with
the years prior, a spike in attendance at most venues has tracks
across the Southeast lining up to host series events in 2011.
2009 Series Recap
The O’Reilly Southern Nationals Series recently wrapped
up their 2009 campaign and what a season it was for the fifth
year mini-series. Even in a down economy, car counts and fan attendance
were generally up at each series event, which speaks loudly to
the appeal of the O’Reilly Southern Nationals Series. The
series once again scheduled ten events at ten different venues
in the states of Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and
Tennessee.
The racing was very competitive and Tommy Kerr, of Maryville,
Tennessee captured his first Series Championship. The ten races
were won by eight different drivers, so no one was able to establish
dominance throughout the two-week stretch. The series was once
again sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts, but also welcomed
several new marketing partners. One of which was Red Man Tobacco
Products, who stepped up and sponsored the Rookie of the Year
program, which was won by Arkansas invader Jared Landers.
2008 Series Recap
In the short history of the O'Reilly Southern Nationals Series,
the 2008 season proved to be the most exciting and entertaining.
Fans across the Southeast were able to enjoy a classic duel between
Chris Madden and Dennis "Rambo" Franklin, who together
captured eight wins in the ten series races in '08. At the conclusion
of the final series event at the Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell,
Tennessee, both drivers were tied for the series point lead. However,
Chris Madden was awarded his second straight series title by virtue
of capturing five victories compared to Franklin's three wins.
2007 Series Recap
The 2007 version of the O'Reilly Southern Nationals Series was
a huge success, as the third-year series hosted ten Dirt Late
Model events in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia,
and Tennessee. Even with Mother Nature threatening most of the
shows this year, nine of the races were officially put into the
record books. Chris Madden, of Gray Court, South Carolina, made
a huge impact on the series, as he won six races en route to his
first O'Reilly Southern Nationals Series Championship!
2006 Series Recap
With the 2006 version of the Southern Nationals Series officially
in the books, series promoter Ray Cook would like to thank all
of the drivers, track promoters, sponsors, and most of all, the
fans, for participating in this year's tour. Anthony White, of
Clinton, Tennessee, became the second Southern Nationals Series
point champion in as many years, as he was able to best Brandon
Kinzer, Dennis Franklin, Casey Roberts, and Damon Eller. Just
like in the inaugural year in 2005, the 2006 edition of the series
was ultra-competitive.
2005 Series Recap
The inaugural version of the Southern Nationals Series is in the
books and in promoter Ray Cook's eyes; the series was a "big
success." The series was thrown together in only a couple
of months and featured eight events at eight different venues
in a ten day stretch. The opening night of racing action, Thursday
night, July 21, at the Lavonia (GA) Speedway was unfortunately
rained out, but the next seven events saw seven different drivers
reach victory lane. Those that were fortunate enough to claim
wins on the tour did so by driving a variety of different chassis
makes. In addition, both Hoosier Racing Tires and American Race
Tire was the tire of choice for the winners on several different
occasions. When all the dust had settled last Saturday night at
the Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee, the series had an
inaugural champion: Jeff Cooke of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
