Jonathan Davenport Dominates Lil Bill Corum Memorial to Pocket $21,000 Paycheck!

(April 3, 2021) Jonathan Davenport put on a clinic on Saturday evening on the high banks of Tazewell Speedway, as he bested a stout field of competitors to record the victory in the inaugural running of the 'Lil Bill Corum Memorial' at the Tazewell, Tennessee oval! After clicking off the fastest time in Group B during the qualifying session, Jonathan won his heat race to earn the outside of the front row for the start of the 75-lap feature event. In front of the large crowd, the Blairsville, Georgia superstar beat polesitter Donald McIntosh to turn one on the opening circuit of the Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals Series lid lifter to grab the top spot - a lead he would never relinquish. The view out front was one Jonathan enjoyed throughout the contest, as the talented feature field jockeyed for position behind his familiar #49 machine. The popular driver known as "Superman" worked lapped traffic to perfection in winning by over seven seconds to capture the whopping $21,000 payday in dominant fashion. Runner-up and NASCAR Cup Series star Kyle Larson ran in the second position through much of the race, while Tyler Erb claimed the final spot on the podium in third after starting the 'Lil Bill Corum Memorial' from the inside of the third row. Tenth starting Dale McDowell crossed underneath the checkered flag in the fourth spot and polesitter Donald McIntosh rounded out the top five.

"I definitely love coming here," exclaimed Davenport in the Tazewell Speedway winners circle. "This place is always packed out. Love all these fans coming here and we get great support. Thanks to my crew, they've been working their tails off. This is the same car that we ran at Bristol and I don't see why we don't take it back there next week. This thing's pretty awesome!"

Jonathan's win last night in the Volunteer State marked his third career visit to Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals Series victory lane. His triumph came aboard a Double L Motorsports Longhorn Chassis with sponsorship from Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Spartan Mowers, Lucas Oil, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, Bilstein Shocks, and Fatheadz Eyewear.

"This place is so elbows up and you just gotta get up on the wheel and drive it," Davenport went on to say following his flag-to-flag win in the race that was co-sanctioned with the Iron-Man Late Model Series. "It was a little hard to pass in (turns) one and two down there, but I could get a good run and slide 'em through (turns) three and four. There were a couple of passes that were probably questionable, but hopefully they knew I was the leader and gave me a little bit of a break there."

An impressive 35 car field converged at the bad-fast "Taz" on Saturday and Tyler Erb, of New Waverly, Texas, earned Fast Time honors with his lap of 11.420 seconds. The quartet of heat races were won by Donald McIntosh, Dakotah Knuckles, Jonathan Davenport, and Kyle Larson, while Jensen Ford and David Payne picked up the victories in the pair of consolation races. Christian Hanger (Spring Nationals) and Forrest Trent (Iron-Man) were both awarded provisionals, while Stacy Boles utilized an emergency provisional before suffering mechanical woes prior to the drop of the green flag.

Next up for the cars and stars racing with the Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals Series will be a trip to the newly-reconfigured I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee. Following an open practice session on Friday, April 9, the biggest race in the history of I-75 Raceway will take place on Saturday, April 10. A full program featuring Super Late Model A & B qualifying, heat races, and consolation events will lead into a 53-lap main event that will boast a $10,053 paycheck.
