Tanner
English Becomes Fifth Different Spring Nationals Winner of 2021
at Clarksville Speedway!
(May
2, 2021) The largest-paying Super Late Model race in
the storied history of Clarksville Speedway took place last night,
May 1 and Tanner English etched his name into the record book
by notching his first career Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals
Series victory! Tanner knocked down the quickest lap in Group
A during FK Rod Ends qualifying prior to securing a popular win
in his heat race. After starting the 53-lap main event from the
pole position, the Benton, Kentucky hotshoe outgunned outside
polesitter Dale McDowell and dominantly led each circuit to bag
the hefty $10,053 top prize.
Jadon Frame advanced to finish in the runner-up position, while
fifth-starting Donald McIntosh brought his machine home in the
third spot. Previous night winner and current miniseries point
leader Dale McDowell slipped to finish fourth, while local favorite
David Seibers rounded out the top five. Only two cautions slowed
the action - the first on the initial start of the feature and
the second on lap 9 for a slowing Johnny Cloer.
"I've run a lot of laps at this place," said English
following the win, "so I know just about every condition
and where to go when it's a certain way, and everything like that,
qualifying and all the way through (the program). I grew up here
and it's a pretty cool place to come back to and see all these
good fans. I know everybody that supports me here and I appreciate
it a ton. I've also gotta thank Riggs Motorsports. They've done
a lot for me and I couldn't be standing here without them, for
sure!"
Tanner's win last night at Clarksville Speedway marked his fourth
trip to victory lane already in 2021 at the Clarksville, Tennessee
facility. He also became the fifth different Spring Nationals
winner in as many races this year - joining Jonathan Davenport,
Brandon Overton, David Payne, and Dale McDowell. Tanner's victory
came aboard a Riggs Motorsports Rocket Chassis powered by a Jay
Dickens Racing Engine with sponsorship from Riggs Drilling Solutions,
Best One Tire & Auto Care, Lucas Oil, Base Racing Fuel, Wiles
Racing Driveshafts, Budda Bert Transmissions, Slicker Graphics,
and Allstar Performance.
A 27 car field assembled at Clarksville Speedway and Dale McDowell
picked up Fast Time honors on the evening with his quick lap of
11.955 seconds. Heat race wins went to Tanner English, Jadon Frame,
Dale McDowell, and Richard Frost, while the consolation event
was won by Gavin Schmidt. Series Provisionals were awarded to
Jeff Neubert and Jensen Ford.
The Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals Series will jump right back
into competition on May 7-8 with a doubleheader in the states
of Virginia and Tennessee. Up first will be a trip to the picturesque
Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia on Friday night, while
Saturday's stop will take the cars and stars racing with the Spring
Nationals tour to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee.
Both rounds six and seven of the miniseries next weekend will
boast $10,053 paychecks. More information about each of these
venues can be found online at www.WytheRaceway.com
and www.SmokyMtnSpeed.com.
