Tyler
Erb Earns $21,000 for Wild Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial Win
at Tazewell Speedway
(April
19, 2025) Tyler Erb, of New Waverly, Texas, added his
name to the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented
by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco winner’s list
on Saturday night by winning a wild Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial
at the bad-fast Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee! Tyler
ran third in his heat race and later rolled off from the inside
of the sixth row in the 75-lap headliner. During the course of
the race, which saw several drivers suffer flat right rear tires,
Tyler blasted towards the front of the field and was in position
to assume the point when leader Brandon Overton suffered his own
flat right rear tire on lap 42. (MRM Racing

From there, Tyler survived four caution periods while out front
and reached the checkers first to bag the $21,000 first place
prize in front of a huge hillside crowd. Newport, Tennessee star
Jimmy Owens steered past eleven competitors to earn a strong runner-up
performance and a $10,000 payday. Polesitter Brandon Overton,
who led the first 41 circuits before heading to the infield with
a flat tire, rebounded from the tail to nab the third and final
spot on the podium. Montana invader Michael Leach impressed by
picking off four competitors to finish fourth, while Dale McDowell
rallied back up to finish fifth after suffering a flat right rear
tire on the twelfth lap.
“This is awesome, man - I enjoyed it,” quoted Erb
in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane. “We broke a transmission
today and knocked a radiator out in the heat race. We didn’t
work harder than anybody else, we just haven’t had things
go our way. But tonight it did. I have to thank everyone involved
with our Best Performance Motorsports team and it’s awesome
to win in front of this great crowd. Hopefully, we can make it
back again next year!”
There were 24 Super Late Model competitors that signed into the
Tazewell Speedway pit area for round six of the Schaeffer’s
Oil Spring Nationals Series schedule. With the scoring loop inadvertently
damaged, live timing was not available. The unofficial qualifying
times were done by stopwatch and scorers in the tower hand scored
each of the races.
Brandon Overton unofficially went 10.820 seconds in FK Rod Ends
qualifying to not only earn Fast Time honors, but he also collected
a $1,050 bonus for his quick lap. Overton later won the Toyota
Knoxville Quick Six Dash to land the pole position for the Lil’
Bill Corum Memorial and the dash victory also shelled out a $1,050
bonus. “Big Sexy” also claimed an additional $1,000
for leading the feature on lap 28 - an award that was put up by
Kelly Camp in memory of Jeff Wolfenbarger.
Mike Marlar and Michael Leach secured the wins in the pair of
heat races to set the remainder of the lineup for the 5th Annual
Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial. A total of nine caution flags
slowed the pace in the 75-lapper, which honored Corum who is a
Hall of Famer at three different tracks and won more than 300
races in his legendary career.
Next up for the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series
presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco tour will
be a visit to Beckley Motor Speedway in Mount Hope, West Virginia
on April 25-26. Co-sanctioned with the United Late Model Series
(ULMS), the annual running of the Beckley USA 100 will be a two-day
extravaganza. A $4,053 payday will be up for grabs this Friday
night, while Saturday’s grand finale will boast a $15,053
top prize. An extra $1,000 is also on the line if a driver can
sweep both weekend races. Additional information on the Beckley
USA 100 can be found online at www.beckleymotorspeedway.com.
