Casey
Roberts Returns to Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Victory
Lane Friday at Sugar Creek
(May
23, 2025) Casey Roberts, of Toccoa, Georgia, reached
Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series victory lane for
the fourth time in his career on Friday night at Sugar Creek Raceway
in Blue Ridge, Georgia! Casey, who clicked off the fastest lap
overall during FK Rod Ends qualifying, started from the pole position
in the 40-lap main event. The driver of the familiar #101 then
inherited the point on lap nine when early race leader Zack Mitchell
slowed to bring out a DirtCarLift.com caution flag with a flat
right rear tire.
Once out front, Casey controlled the field and ran virtually
unchallenged to pocket the $8,553 winner’s check, which
included an extra $1,000 courtesy of race sponsors Interstate
Welding & Steel Supply and Vinson Sims Construction. Fellow
Georgian Jordy Nipper finished 2.520 seconds behind Roberts to
record an impressive runner-up and received $4,000 for his efforts.
Clover, South Carolina native Ross Bailes improved four spots
to round out the podium in third. Series point leader Garrett
Smith moved past five racecars to finish fourth, while local ace
David Payne started and finished in the fifth position.
Haiden Cowan earned Hard Charger honors with his thirteenth to
sixth place run in the 40-lapper. Zack Mitchell, who led the first
eight circuits before suffering the untimely flat tire, rebounded
from the tail to salvage a steady seventh place effort. Jensen
Ford, sixteenth-starting Chris Ferguson, and Wil Herrington rounded
out the top ten finishers on Friday in the Peach State.
“I couldn’t see my wife giving stick signals there,
so I really didn’t know how far out front we were at the
end,” quoted Roberts in Schaeffer’s Oil Victory Lane
in front of a huge grandstand crowd. “I thought they were
pretty close and I almost gave (the race) away in lapped traffic.
It was pretty hectic out there. We’ve been having a lot
of bad luck here lately, but thank the good Lord that we were
able to get a good win here tonight. I have to thank everyone
that works on this car and all of our great sponsors that make
it all possible!”
Casey Roberts piloted a Gus Simpson-owned #101 Longhorn Chassis
powered by a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship in part from
Simpson’s Trucking & Grading, Ralph Grizzle Trucking,
R&B Mechanical, Elrod Trucking, A-Plus Signs, and Bilstein
Shocks.
A total of 19 competitors were on hand at Sugar Creek Raceway
for round nine of the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series
presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco. Zack Mitchell
was quick right out of the box by laying down the fastest lap
in MRP Fantasy League hot laps, while Casey Roberts topped the
speed charts in FK Rod Ends qualifying with his quick time of
14.375 seconds. The feature field was set solely through qualifying
with Casey Roberts and Zack Mitchell earning the front row due
to posting the fastest laps in their respective groups. The 40-lap
headliner lasted just shy of twenty minutes with only three caution
flags slowing the pace.
Next up for the Spring Nationals tour will be a visit to North
Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia on Saturday, May 24 for
the annual running of the $10,053 to win ‘Biddle Ridley
Memorial.’ The pit gates will open at 2:30pm and the grandstands
will start to allow patrons into the facility at 3:00pm. The drivers
meeting is set for 6:00pm and hot laps will take to the racetrack
at 6:30pm.
