Garrett
Smith Adds Name to Spring Nationals Champions List; Wil Herrington
Celebrated as Runner-Up
(May
29, 2025) The points portion of the Schaeffer’s
Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing
and fueled by Sunoco season came to a close over the Memorial
Day holiday weekend and despite a pair of rainouts at North Georgia
Speedway and Duck River (TN) Raceway Park, Garrett Smith was crowned
the 2025 Champion!
Adding his name to the list of previous Spring Nationals Champions
that includes Donald McIntosh, Carson Ferguson, Dale McDowell,
Eric Wells, Brandon Overton, Billy Ogle, Jr., and Steve Casebolt,
Garrett claimed the $10,053 Championship check by besting runner-up
Wil Herrington by 32 points. The Eatonton, Georgia ace racked
up two wins, five Top Fives, and six Top Tens in the nine series
events that escaped the wrath of Mother Nature. Including point
money, Garrett amassed $36,809 in winnings, which averages out
to over $4,089 per completed event.
“I’d first off like to thank the good Lord for putting
me in this position to be surrounded by some great people,”
quoted Garrett Smith upon winning the Schaffer’s Oil Spring
Nationals Series Championship. “All my sponsors, family,
and crew. My Longhorn Chassis / Vic Hill Race Engine package has
been good to us this year. I believe I have a great team built
up from the start of this year. I’d like to thank my family
for supporting me and helping me get up and down the road. I’d
also like to thank all of my sponsors including Atlanta Paving,
Cadillac Ranch, Bilstein Shocks, Longhorn Chassis, Vic Hill Race
Engines, VP Racing Fuel by Boswell, Schaeffer’s Oil, JM
Custom Laser, Stanley Painting, and VG Performance.”
Wil Herrington, of Hawkinsville, Georgia, was awarded $5,053
for a strong second place points finish with the tour this year.
In the nine series races, Wil accumulated a pair of Top Fives
and six Top Tens. His best Spring Nationals efforts this year
were a runner-up finish in the series opener back in late February
at Swainsboro (GA) Raceway and a fourth place showing at East
Alabama Motor Speedway in March. Including point money, Wil amassed
$15,628 in winnings, which averages out to over $1,736 per completed
event.
“We gave it all we had, but we came up a little short,”
stated Wil Herrington. “I would like to thank Bruce Kane
for giving me the opportunity to chase a points championship.
I’d also like to thank my family for standing behind me
and all of our partners including All About Doors, Haywood Marine
Construction, AA Mowing and Landscaping, Watermelon Park, Clopay,
T&T Sweeping and Portilet, All About Wraps, 5M Construction,
Jerry’s Siding and Roofing, ML Performance, Fox Shocks,
Boswell Oil, and Rocket Chassis.”
Eight different winners celebrated in Schaeffer’s Oil Victory
Lane on tour this year with only newly-crowned Champion Garrett
Smith winning twice (Buckshot Speedway, Rockcastle Speedway).
Other Spring Nationals winners this year included Chris Madden
(Swainsboro Raceway), Cody Overton (Senoia Raceway), Brandon Overton
(East Alabama Motor Speedway), Ricky Weiss (I-75 Raceway), Tyler
Erb (Tazewell Speedway), Jimmy Owens (Lake Cumberland Speedway),
and Casey Roberts (Sugar Creek Raceway). 115 different drivers
entered at least one series event in 2025.
Three of the five shows that were rained-out this spring have
already been rescheduled. The ‘Beckley USA 100’ at
Beckley Motor Speedway in Mount Hope, West Virginia will be held
on October 9-10, while a visit to the historic Dixie Speedway
in Woodstock, Georgia will now take place on Saturday, October
11. Make-up dates for the Memorial Day weekend rain-outs at North
Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia and Duck River Raceway
Park in Wheel, Tennessee will be announced soon. With the Championship
already decided, these will be non-point events for the Schaeffer’s
Oil Spring Nationals Series.
